Residential Permits:
** When filling out your application total all fees and add
one percent (1%) per State requirements. **
Application for an Above Ground Pool Permit - Needed for the installation of any above ground pool.
Application for an Accessory Building
Application for an Addition Permit - Needed for the construction of an additional structure on the property of an existing residence. There may be an approval process required for the issuance of this permit. Please contact the Building Department for further details and to ascertain if you require any board approvals.
Application for a Deck Permit - Needed for the building of an attached, outdoor deck structure in the rear yard of a property.
Application for a Demolition Permit - Needed for the removal of an existing building on a property; if there are multiple structures that require demolition applicant must apply for individual permit for each structure to be demolished.
Application for a Detached Garage Permit - Needed for the creation of any garage structure unattached to the existing residence.
Application for a Driveway Permit- Needed for the creation and pouring of a new driveway for a residence.
Application for an Electrical Permit - Needed for the installation of new electrical work or the modification of existing electrical work in a residence.
Application for an Elevator Permit
Application for a Fence Permit - Needed for the creation of a new fence on a property or the replacement of an existing fence.
Application for Fireworks Display
Application for a Foundation Permit
- Needed for the creation of a new residential building on a property. An approval
process is required for the issuance of this
permit. To be submitted with the New
Dwelling Permit .
Application for a Change of Grade,
Boring, Filing Permit - Needed in order to change the grade of particular
property. A bond is required to accompany this permit in
order to validate said permit.
Application for a Heating/AC Permit - Needed for the installation of new heating or air conditioning systems or the modification of existing systems in a residence.
Application for a Heavy Vehicle
Permit - Needed for all builders using a vehicle in the Village weighing
over five tons. A bond is required to accompany this permit
in order to validate said permit.
Application for a Mechanical Gate Permit
- Needed for the addition of a mechanical gate to a property. In addition to
this permit, an electrical permit is also required
when installing a mechanical gate.
Application for a New Dwelling Permit - Needed for the creation of a new residential building on a property. An approval process is required for the issuance of this permit. Please use the Building Guidelines link to view all requirements and download all other necessary forms.

Application for a Plumbing/Sewer Permit - Needed for the installation of any new plumbing equipment or sewer lines on a property.
Application for a Remodeling Permit
- Needed for the structural modification of any existing buildings on a property.
An approval process may be required for the issuance of this permit. Please contact
the Building Department for additional details and to
ascertain if you require board approvals.
Application for a Retaining Wall Permit
Application for a Roofing Permit
- Needed for the creation of a new roof and
the repair, replacement, or recovering of an existing one.
Application for a Sidewalk Permit - Needed for the creation of a new sidewalk on a property.
Application for a Siding Permit - Needed for the addition of new siding onto a residence.
Application for a Sprinkler System Permit - Needed for the installation of a sprinkler system on a property.
Application for a Street Opening Tunneling/Boring Permit - Needed when either street or any part of the grade from the backside of the pubic sidewalk (or one would normally be located) and the street curb is dug into.
Application for a Tent Permit - Needed for the temporary installation of a tent for an event on a property. If electricity will be installed in the tent, a separate electrical permit is required to be filed.
Waterproofing permit - Required for waterproofing of any property.
Other Permits:
Application for Contractor Registration, 2010 - Needed for all contractors and their subcontractors performing work in the Village of Bratenahl. Contractors must be registered before they attempt to file permits or start their projects; a daily $100 fine exists for those contractors and subcontractors who fail to do so.
Application for Certificate of Compliance - Needs to be completed when a resident moves from a home, in order to certify that the home is in compliance with the standards of safety and quality required by the Village of Bratenahl.
Monthly List of Trades Form- To be submitted each month by all contractors currently working in the Village, so that we may consistently have a recent list of all contractors and subcontractors working at a particular jobsite.
Request for Document Copy - This form needs to be filed when one desires to locate and/or request a copy of a document held by the Bratenahl Building Department.
Homeowner’s Affidavit - For homeowners who apply for permits personally & have intensions to perform the work themselves, or have a member of their immediate family perform work. This form is to be submitted in conjunction with the permit application.
